Artsakh Defense Minister, Commander of the Defense Army Jalal Harutyunyan was injured on the battlefield and relieved of his duties, Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan said on Monday.
“Pursuant to Paragraph 4 of Article 93 and Part 3 of Article 94 of the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh, I signed a decree on dismissing Lieutenant-General Jalal Harutyunyan as Artsakh Defense Minister - Commander of the Defense Army,” the president wrote on Facebook.
According to another presidential decree, Major-General Michael Arzumanyan was named as his replacement.
“The decision to release Jalal Harutyunyan was dictated by the injury he sustained the other day in the combat position and should not become a reason for discussions,” Harutyunyan said, wishing Jalal Harutyunyan a speedy recovery and expressing conviction that he would return to the service of the homeland very soon.
“I am sure that Michael Arzumanyan realizes the degree of responsibility in the new position and will spare no effort to justify the confidence vested in him,” he added.
