Deputy Speaker: Armenia may apply to CSTO when it is certain to get a positive response
"The Republic of Armenia will apply for the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), when it can be certain to receive a unilateral positive response," Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan told reporters on Tuesday.
Simonyan's remarks came when asked to comment on the possibility to turn to the military bloc following the reports of Azeri bombardment of the Armenian border guard positions in the country's south, at the junction with Iran.
Simonyan reminded that the decision-making at CSTO and other similar structures is based on consensus. In his words, Armenia may apply when there are irrefutable facts which will be hard to question within the frames of CSTO consideration.
"The step will be made when we are certain the request will receive a unilateral positive response. There is no need [for such a request] today but in case of a threat to the RA border, I assure that our allies and partners will not let the situation aggravate further," said Simonyan.
