Armenian analyst: New Artsakh army chief was commander of Mataghis military unit at 22
Artsakh’s newly appointed Defense Minister/Commander of the Defense Army, General Mikayel Arzumanyan is not a new figure in the military, Henaket Analytical Center head Tigran Abrahamyan said on Tuesday.
“Just the fact that he served as the commander of the Mataghis military unit at the age of 22 already speaks of his numerous abilities,” the analyst said. “He held various command posts in the Armenian Armed Forces.”
Arzumanyan had to replace Lieutenant-General Jalal Harutyunyan as the Artsakh defense and army chief after the latter was wounded in action.
Wishing him a speedy recovery, Tigran Abrahamyan expressed confidence that Harutyunyan would soon rejoin the military.
