Armenian forces improve their position in direction of Berdzor – Defense Ministry rep
The armed forces of Azerbaijan, as well as the terrorist groups supporting and fighting with them, special purpose subdivisions continued different offensive operations along the border with Armenia, as well as from the north to the south of Artsakh on Wednesday, representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan told a daily briefing hosted by the Armenian Unified Infocenter.
According to him, some small-scale operations were carried out in the southern section and in the direction of Berdzor.
“The adversary did not manage to advance in the direction of Berdzor despite its efforts. In this direction, the units of our armed forces made certain positional improvements,” Hovhannisyan said.
In the northern direction there were mostly artillery fire and shelling, in particular, in the direction of Martakert and subdivisions further north.
Hovhannisyan decried the fresh Azerbaijani strikes on Artsakh’s civilian settlements throughout the day, as a result of which there were deaths and injuries among civilians in Shushi and Stepanakert.
Hostilities continued in the southern direction as well, he said, adding the work of neutralizing the subversive groups continues. “They are of local, slow, not intense, but persistent nature. There have been no significant changes in this regard,” the representative said.
"The Defense Army has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreements. However, the Azerbaijani understanding of these agreements seems to be completely different. They seem to interpret these agreements as a permission to target the civilian population and infrastructure of Artsakh and to annihilate the Artsakh Armenians, which is unacceptable. The Artsakh Defense Army is taking all the necessary steps to neutralize any threat to the people of Artsakh and they will continue to do so," Hovhannisyan said.
He said that the hostilities do not have the same density and dynamics, adding the combat actions are more of a local nature now. Subversive groups, artillery and partly air force are in use, he added.
