Ex-President Kocharyan contracted Covid-19, unable to travel to Moscow
Armenia's ex-President Robert Kocharyan has contracted Covid-19 and is unable to travel to Moscow due to the positive result of the coronavirus test, the office of the former president said in a clarification.
Earlier, it was reported that Kocharyan along with Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan expressed a desire to leave for Moscow and discuss the situation around the Nagorno Karabakh conflict with representatives of Russian elite. The visit had been agreed with acting PM Nikol Pashinyan.
"The suggestion to leave for Moscow was made by second and third presidents of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. The president accepted the suggestion, yet he was unable to leave the country for known reasons," the ex-president's office said, referring to the signature on non-departure for him within the criminal prosecution of the March 1 events.
According to the source, the Court later returned Kocharyan's passport with an exit date restriction until November 7.
It is noted that Kocharyan was set to leave for Moscow in the coming days and got tested for coronavirus which is mandatory for travelers to Russia. The test result was positive which was quite unexpected, as the president showed no symptoms for the virus.
"Regretfully, in the occurred circumstances, Kocharyan's departure to Moscow and organization of different meetings are temporarily impossible. President Kocharyan is now in self-isolation and spares no effort to contribute to ending the war in Artsakh," the office of the former president added.
