Foreign Ministry: Russia will render Yerevan all necessary assistance if fighting reaches Armenia’s territory
Russia will provide all necessary assistance to Yerevan if the fighting reaches Armenia’s territory, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The comments came after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan formally asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to begin urgent consultations with the aim of determining the kind and scale of assistance which the Russian Federation can provide to the Republic of Armenia to ensure its security, based on the allied relations between the two countries and the Article 2 of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance of August 29, 1997.
“Russia will render Yerevan all necessary assistance if clashes move directly to the territory of Armenia,” the ministry said, urging the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to immediately halt fire and return to the negotiating table.
