Defense Ministry official: Azerbaijani forces managed to take one or two positions in direction of Martuni
Last night, the Azerbaijani armed forces carried out several large-scale attacks along the entire northwestern border of Artsakh, but all of them failed. Some units remained in a trap and were completely destroyed by artillery fire, Armenian Defense Ministry official Artsrun Hovhannisyan told a daily briefing on Monday.
Early in the morning the Azerbaijani troops made several attempts to attack other parts of the border – in the north, in the direction of Martakert, in the central direction of Martuni and in different directions of the southern front. Today's attacks differed in their strength from the attacks of the previous days, the official said.
“The adversary’s attack attempts failed in all directions, in some places they were even repulsed and chased. Our subdivisions managed to pursue and have certain positional changes. However, the Azerbaijani armed forces managed to take one or two positions in the direction of Martuni – south of Martuni, in the direction of Chartar,” Hovhannisyan said.
At the moment the battles continue. In general, all the offensive operations today have failed in all directions. Mainly squad and battalion-sized subdivisions were used. Aviation was actively used, several settlements were bombed, including in the direction of Davit Bek village in Armenia’s Syunik Province.
In general, the situation is under control, the official assured, adding the movements and regroupings of the adversary are fixed and are neutralized mainly by artillery fire.
