Protesting Armenians place wreath, coffin outside UN Office in Yerevan
A group of people staged a protest in front of the UN Office in Armenia on Tuesday. They held a symbolic funeral placing a wreath and a coffin outside the building and observing a minute's silence “in memory of the UN Office”.
The protesters thus expressed their dissatisfaction with the organization, which, according to them, fails to take steps to end the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh and remains silent. They demanded an adequate response from the international community to the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan.
"Until now, when we gathered outside the UN Office to voice our concerns and provide evidence, the next day there was a response, or the head of the office visited the wounded civilians. Another statement was made after yesterday's visit, but we are not happy with it at all. We urge them to take action, otherwise they have nothing to do in this country. All of today’s actions come in response to their silence. This structure seems to have died a long time ago, we are just paying tribute to its memory today,” said one of the protesters.
She stated that it’s simply insulting for Armenia when the UN urges both sides to respect the ceasefire agreements in its statements. She called for a clear UN response to Azerbaijan’s actions and a plan based on humanitarian norms and UN conventions to put an end to the situation.
A protest was held in front of the UN Office in Yerevan on Monday as well, during which protesters managed to lower the UN flag in front of the building.
