Fight against terrorism emerges as new reality in Armenia’s foreign policy, FM says
Armenia warned of security challenges spreading to the South Caucasus region early on, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in the Armenian National Assembly on Thursday.
"We foresaw that this challenge would shift to the South Caucasus. For us, it’s about human lives, a security challenge, but it does not only concern us. And what is happening in Artsakh, on the battlefield, today is the manifestation of that challenge,” the minister told a parliamentary discussion of the 2021 state budget, describing Turkey's aggressive policy as the most serious challenge.
Mnatsakanyan stated that Armenia will continue working with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and its other partners to restore peace and stability in the region.
According to him, the most serious challenge is the deployments of terrorists in the region, which poses a threat not only to the region but also beyond it. Mnatsakanyan stressed a new reality has emerged in Armenia’s foreign policy – the fight against terrorism.
The foreign minister stated that Artsakh's existential struggle has been and remains a key priority in Armenia's foreign policy.
"Of course, we are fighting on our own, but we are also using our ties, our partnership with other countries," he said.
