Gagik Tsarukyan, Artur Vanetsyan and 8 other politicians arrested for defying martial law
Opposition Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, former Director of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) Artur Vanetsyan, who currently leads the opposition Homeland Party, as well as eight other politicians have been arrested following Wednesday’s rally in Yerevan, the Special Investigations Service reported.
They have been taken into custody for holding an unlawful rally in violation of the restrictions imposed during the martial law.
The 10 arrested politicians also include former Deputy National Assembly Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, ARF member Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Garnik Isaghulyan, Suren Surenyants, Gegham Manukyan, Davit Hambardzumyan, Ara Sahakyan and Artur Ghazinyan.
Vahagn Chakhalyan and Hrachya Ghukasyan are involved as suspects in the criminal case, with a signature bond imposed on them as a measure of restraint.
The preliminary probe is underway.
