Armenia becoming a country of political prisoners - Naira Zohrabyan
The opposition rally demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has started near the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts in Yerevan.
"There are reports that all of us, including me, will be arrested. In case of that development, the deputies of the ruling "My Step" fraction may swiftly gather and strip us of parliamentary immunity," MP Naira Zohrabyan told reporters at the beginning of the rally.
In Zohrabyan's words, there can be no grounds for detentions, as the participants of the demonstration say nothing for which they can be called for responsibility. Zohrabyan reminded that dozens of opposition leaders are kept under detention at present, and they are considered political prisoners - Gagik Tsarukyan, Artur Vanetsyan, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Gegham Manukyan, Ara Sahakyan and Artsvik Minasyan among them.
"A leader, who declared himself democratically-elected, enjoying the absolute vote of the people, turned Armenia into a country of political prisoners," said Zohrabyan.
"When we say you have sold Artsakh, it is a fact, and you have no grounds to arrest anyone for that. If you arrest me or anyone, we have a list of others who will come to replace us. Do you plan to arrest three million people?" Zohrabyan asked.
