Turkey to send more fighters to Azerbaijan, American reporter says
The mercenaries who were sent to Azerbaijan to fight against Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) have not yet returned to Syria. Moreover, there are talks of sending more fighters to the region, American independent reporter Lindsey Snell said in a tweet, citing SNA sources.
“Rumors as to why: defense of certain points, help with Turkish bases in the long term. But it could just be that their presence is lucrative for Turkey,” she tweeted.
The reporter said the Syrian fighters are not allowed out without supervision. “Most don’t have access to a smartphone. This isn’t even a rumor among the mercenaries!” she wrote.
Earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed that the Turkish intelligence service had offered the leaders of the Sultan Murad and Suleyman Shah terrorist groups to live in Azerbaijan. Such a statement was made by SOHR Director Rami Abdulrahman, Ermenihaber reported.
According to the watchdog, the number of mercenaries sent by Turkey to Azerbaijan has reached 4,000.
