Senator calls on France to recognize Artsakh as a moral imperative of humanity toward Armenians
The French Senate continues the debate of the resolution on the need for recognition of the Republic of Artsakh. "There is no local conflict going on in Nagorno-Karabakh, and we need to express a position based on our interests and values. We should't hide behind diplomacy," Senator Bruno Retalier, one of the co-authors of the resolution stated at the Wednesaday session.
"Mister Erdogan has involved Turkey in this through his expansionist Islamic policy. Let us call a spade a spade, since this is a threat to peace here and elsewhere. That was the regime that armed the Azerbaijani army and the one which provoked confrontations in different regions - from Libya to the Caucasus, in the center of Europe, in Cyprus, Greece," the Senator added.
In his words, Erdogan acknowledges only one limit - which is the balance of power. "How many aggressions are needed for Europe to wake up and employ diplomatic and economic sanctions" said Retalier.
The French Senator noted that the resolution calls for an international investigation into the crimes committed during the war, the protection for displaced civilians and cultural heritage.
"France must not turn its back to this friendship. When Aliyev calls those people dogs, he calls this the whole nation. The sword of Damocles is hanging over Armenia when it provides a corridor of land to allow Azerbaijan to have direct access to Nakhijevan. Betraying Armenians means betraying ourselves," said the senator, calling for the lawmakers to adopt the resolution and thus realize the moral imperative of the humanity toward Armenians.
