Armenia's Aronian advances to quarterfinals of Skilling Open 2020
Armenian Grandmaster Levon Aronian advanced to the quarterfinals of Skilling Open 2020 international online chess tournament. As the National Olympic Committee reported, in the single round robin tournament played from Sunday to Tuesday, Aronian defeated Krzysztof Duda, Anish Giri, Sergey Karjakin and drew with Hikaru Nakamura and Chinese grandmaster Ding Liren.
The Armenian collected 8.5 points and took the fifth position, moving on to the knockout stage of the tournament. The top eight will play a 6-day knockout, with two days each for the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. At the quarterfinals Aronian will play against Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia on November 25.
