Azerbaijani parliament appeals to government to remove France from OSCE Minsk Group
The Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) issued a statement on the French Senate’s resolution, which called on the government to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic. As the local sources reported, the parliament called on the government to appeal to the leadership of the OSCE to remove France from the OSCE Minsk Group as well as reconsider political relations between Azerbaijan and France.
The moves came after the French Senate adopted on Wednesday a resolution, calling on the need to recognize the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). According to the resolution, the Senate is calling for immediate withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from the territories captured in Nagorno-Karabakh since September 27, an international investigation into war crimes and use of prohibited weapons. Moreover, the senators recommended that the government "draw conclusions on the role played by Turkish authorities and consider most decisive measures together with European partners."
French Secretary of State at the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne took the floor during the Senate debates and expressed the opinion that "unilateral recognition of Karabakh will do no good for anyone" and will not serve to boost mediation efforts.
