80% of villages in Geghamasar community can be easily targeted by Azerbaijan, head says
Eighty percent of the villages of Geghamasar community in Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province can now be easily targeted by Azerbaijan, Geghamasar community head Hakob Avetyan told Panorama.am.
"80% of the village pastures and agricultural lands can be targeted by the enemy. I don’t know how dangerous the use of pastures and agricultural lands will be, it depends on the behavior of the adversary, because the areas will be in sight. All the villages are visible,” he said. adding the settlements can be easily attacked by the Azerbaijani forces if they want.
According to him, the safety of villagers depends on the extent to which the ceasefire regime is observed by the two states. "Obviously, the villagers are worried about how they will cultivate the lands and use the pastures," he underlined.
To the question whether there is emigration from the rural communities which can possibly be targeted by the adversary, Hakob Avetyan said that no such tendency has been observed yet.
At the same time, he said that Geghamasar community has no lost territories as a result of the border demarcation.
"Not a single inch of land is lost from the administrative territory of my community, the territory of Karvachar is just separated," Hakob Avetyan stressed.
