Opposition MP says new proposal on POWs emerged at discussions with Armenia’s former justice minister
Head of the opposition Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan says a new proposal concerning war prisoners was made during his discussions with Armenia’s former Justice Minister, human rights activist Artak Zeynalyan on Saturday.
"After my petition to the Russian president on the issue of Armenian prisoners of war (POW) yesterday, a new proposal emerged today as a result of discussions with human rights activist Artak Zeynalyan,” the lawmaker wrote on Facebook.
“Thus, based on the really dire situation at hand, we propose to also set up a tripartite commission consisting of representatives of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, which will visit prisoners of war held on both sides without facing any obstacles, prevent possible ill-treatment of POWs and specify their total number on both sides, actual locations and detention conditions,” he said.
Marukyan stated the commission should be created in the shortest period possible in defense of the prisoners of war and for their immediate return to their families.
