Russia hopes UNESCO experts to arrive in Nagorno-Karabakh soon
Russia hopes UNESCO experts will soon arrive in Nagorno-Karabakh to assess the preservation of Christian and Muslim shrines, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during the briefing on Thursday.
“We hope that the mission, which has been agreed with the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides, will allow the experts in the field of conservation and preservation of monuments from UNESCO to reach the site and deliver an objective assessment of the situation,” Zakharova said.
The Russian diplomat reminded that that Russia has expressed a support to the initiative o the Director-General of UNESCO to carry out a preliminary field mission, in order to draw up an inventory of the most significant cultural assets for the effective protection of the region's heritage.
