Russian peacekeepers continue to demine outskirts of Stepanakert
Military personnel of the International Mine Action Center of the Russian Defence Ministry continue to work on engineering reconnaissance and mine clearance in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), the ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Russian peacekeepers conducted engineering reconnaissance and mine clearance of the area around power transmission poles along the Stepanakert-Shushi road. 3.4 hectares of territory and 2.2 km of roads were cleared, 96 explosive objects were found and removed for destruction.
In total, engineering units in Nagorno-Karabakh cleared more than 60 hectares of terrain, 20 km of roads, and found and neutralized about 1,250 explosive objects.
Detected explosive objects, abandoned or non-exploded ammunition are taken to a specially equipped landfill and destroyed. Ammunition that cannot be evacuated is destroyed on the spot with the necessary security measures in place.
In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, a complete ceasefire and all military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh were declared from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10.
The Russian peacekeepers provide the security of the return of the citizens to their places of permanent residence, the humanitarian aid, the restoration of civil infrastructure facilities.
With the assistance of Russian peacekeepers, the restoration of vital engineering communications continues in the areas affected by the war. Over the past day, four poles and 1,600 m of power lines, 1 km of gas pipeline, 2,200 m of communication lines and two transformer substations were restored.
