ECHR applies urgent measures in case of 23 more Armenians held captive in Azerbaijan
Lawyer Artak Zeynalyan provided an update on the protection of the rights of Armenian prisoners of war (POW) and civilians in Azerbaijani captivity in the European Court. “The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) granted our requests submitted on November 30, December 2, 4, and 7 over the protection of the rights of servicemen taken prisoner and civilians during the large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh in the early morning of September 27, 2020 and decided to apply urgent measures in case of 23 more people," Zeynalyan informed.
Civilians in Azerbaijani captivity are identified as:
Hrachya Gabrielyan,
Erik Mkhitaryan,
Khachatur Mikayelyan,
Harutyun Seyradaryan,
Artyom Karapetyan,
Liparit Tadevosyan,
Ashot Yasayan,
Davit Danielyan,
Artsvik Chobanyan,
Gegham Martirosyan,
Mikayel Mirzoyan,
Hamlet Malkhasyan,
Armen Martirosyan,
Seven Ghazaryan,
Serob Galoyan,
Mushegh Nurbekyan,
Hovhannes Gabrielyan,
Sergey Manukyan.
Detained civilians are identified as:
Kamo Minasyan
Borya Baghdasaryan
Maxim Grigoryan
Karen Petrosyan
Sedrak Petrosyan.
The European Court has requested documented information from the government of Azerbaijan on the fact of their capture, whereabouts, detention conditions and medical issues. The court has set 7, 9, 10, 11, and 14 December as a deadline for the required information," the lawyer informed.
It is noted that the Azerbaijani government has provided formal, evasive and incomplete responses to previous requests raised by the European Court about the whereabout and detention conditions of Armenian PoWs and failed to provide evidence for proper medical services to be offered to them.
