Russia to ban imports of tomatoes, apples from Azerbaijan
The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) has decided to ban the imports of tomatoes and apples from Azerbaijan to Russia starting from December 10 after finding harmful organisms in them, RIA Novosti reports.
In a statement on Tuesday, Rosselkhoznadzor said they had repeatedly warned the Food Security Agency of Azerbaijan about the harmful organisms found in the imported products.
In particular, from October 22 to present, specialists of the Russian watchdog have recorded 17 cases of detecting South American tomato moths and oriental fruit moths in them.
“In this regard, in order to preserve phytosanitary well-being, to prevent the imports and spread of these pests in the territory of the Russian Federation, the Rosselkhoznadzor is forced to ban the imports of tomatoes and apples of Azerbaijani origin to Russia from December 10, 2020,” the statement said.
