Police in Armenia detain some protesters demanding Pashinyan's resignation
Armenian special police forces, known as “red berets”, on Thursday detained some of the protesters demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation as they tried to block a street in central Yerevan.
Chanting “Nikol the traitor" and "Armenia without Nikol”, activists marched from the government office to Tigran Mets Avenue to close the street connecting it to the Republic Square.
Police officers began to forcibly remove the protesting citizens from the street, detaining some of them.
In the meantime, protesters asked police not to take them away. “We have lost lands, we have lost our homeland. You will regret it later,” they said.
Police officers again urged demonstrators to open the road. They also called on reporters to take to the sidewalks Those who defied the order were forcibly removed from the street.
However, police managed to open the road leading from the Republic Square to Tigran Mets Avenue after a while.
