‘Disgraceful capitulation’ signed by Nikol Pashinyan ‘unacceptable’, intellectuals say
A total of 61 representatives of arts, culture and science who took part in the first gathering of intellectuals in Yerevan in late November issued a statement on Thursday expressing concerns over the situation in the country.
They joined calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, “which will help stop the dangerous developments threatening the Armenian statehood.”
“We express our support to all the layers of the society that make efforts to the exchange of prisoners of war, search for and return of missing soldiers, civilians and bodies of victims, recovery of the wounded, as well as handling of other problems facing the country.
“We consider unacceptable the statement on disgraceful capitulation signed by Nikol Pashinyan on November 9 without the consent of the National Assembly and its terms, demanding that the future government of Armenia make consistent and effective efforts to find a favorable way out of the current situation.
“We resolutely reject the encroachments on science, education and cultural values, demanding that the future government restore the ministries coordinating the mentioned spheres, as a guarantor of their development and progress,” the statement read.
