Some 150 scientists across the globe apply to Vatican Secretariat of State over preservation of cultural heritage in Karabakh
A petition on the preservation of the cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) signed by around 150 scientists from around the world has been submitted to the Vatican Secretariat of State of the Holy See.
In the petition, the scientists stated that apart from the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, the rich Armenian cultural heritage in the region, including hundreds of churches, monasteries and various monuments of the early Christian, medieval and modern periods, is under threat, Matenadaran said in a Facebook post, sharing a copy of the petition.
The scientists presented evidence of how the Armenian artistic and architectural heritage in territories under the control of Azerbaijan was systematically destroyed in the recent past.
The scientists expressed hope that though the mediation of Pope Francis, it will be possible to unite the relevant international organizations to save the heritage of global significance located in the territory of historical Armenia.
