Artur Vanetsyan calls for an investigation into the causes of the Karabakh war, its course, and consequences
"We fought a 44-day war in Karabakh, which ended in huge territorial losses, thousands of victims, injuries, missing people and captives, an almost destroyed security system and the loss of the part of the Armed Forces," Artur Vanetsyan, the leader of Homeland party said on Sunday in an interview with RFE/RL's Armenian Service. Vanetsyan refused to give legal assessment of the war, but insisted a proper investigation should be carried out to reveal the causes of the war, its course and the consequences.
"The investigation will give responses to many unanswered questions," Vanetsyan stressed.
"Most people ask whether Pashinyan should be blamed for the war. When Nikol Pashinyan was assuming the office of the prime minister of Armenia, he should have realized that Artsakh issue was the biggest unresolved problem our country faced which required a settlement. I had the opportunity on many occasions to warn him that if no negotiations were held, the alternative would be a war, and we were not ready to go to war against Azerbaijan and Turkey," Vanetsyan noted, reminding of numerous reports about Turkey's active involvement in the preparations of the war. "Pashinyan instead was busy with populist statements," said Vanetsyan.
The leader of opposition party also accused Pashinyan of not stopping the war earlier which was due to the PM's desire to maintain his power.
