Artsakh ombudsman: Some Armenians still held in Azerbaijani captivity, there are numerous missing persons
Artsakh Human Rights Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan welcomed back home the 44 Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) who returned from Azerbaijani captivity late on Monday.
“Thank you to all the bodies and individuals who have made a small contribution to saving at least one life. Special thanks to my small team and volunteers for constantly collecting, analyzing and reporting data on prisoners to the relevant authorities and lawyers, keeping in touch with relatives, and other relevant work in the tough days of the war, thanks to which numerous lives were saved,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“And such coordinated and harmonious work was carried out by several teams in Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia, the lion's share of their efforts was invisible, and some of the results are already visible today,” the ombudsman said.
Beglaryan stressed the need to step up efforts to arrange the repatriation of several other Armenians still held in Azerbaijani captivity.
“In addition, there are still numerus missing prisoners of war and dozens of civilians, some of whom, hopefully, are alive; they should be returned home, and if they are not alive, at least their fate should be clarified.
"So there is still a lot of work to be done in this direction, I am ready to continue to provide maximum support to this process, so that all known and still unknown prisoners return to their homes in a short period of time,” he added.
