Families of missing soldiers protest outside Armenian Defense Ministry
Families of missing soldiers are again staging a protest in front of the Armenian Defense Ministry building in Yerevan.
The protest comes after an estimated 100 Armenian soldiers were reportedly captured by the Azerbaijani troops near the villages of Hin Tagher and Khtsaberd in Nagorno-Karabakh’s Hadrut region 40 days after the war.
Some of the protesters managed to get through the gate and reach the administrative building of the Defense Ministry, while others broke down the glass door and entered the building of the ministry.
"40 days after the war 100 were taken prisoner from the Hadrut region, Jebrayil and nearby forests, what are authorities here thinking about? We hoped that our children went into hiding in the forests, but our only hope has now been dashed,” said a relative of one of the missing soldiers standing behind the gate.
Demonstrators threatened to break into the administrative building of the Defense Ministry if the defense authorities fail to meet with them.
“We have 10 dead from the same home, I can't stand it anymore. Where are our children?” one of the relatives asked.
They noted that they had been received by the Defense Ministry, government and Red Cross officials, but to no avail.
