Armenian authorities ‘consistently hide’ number of missing soldiers, analyst says
The Armenian authorities “consistently hide” the number of servicemen missing in action during the Artsakh war, according to Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of the Henaket Analytical Center and former security adviser to the Artsakh president.
"The authorities have failed to answer a simple question so far: how many people are missing?" he wrote on Facebook.
“After November 9, when the situation was relatively calm and even the troops were granted a short leave, some information on the dead, missing and wounded is assumed to have been acquired by military units, military commissariats and conveyed to the Ministry of Defense and the government.
“Simply put, it is already clear who are missing from the ranks. The number of wounded is obviously there, it was not difficult to figure out, while the number of prisoners is still being specified, because Azerbaijan does not confirm the capture of some persons,” Abrahamyan said.
In the analyst’s words, the authorities do not unveil the actual number of victims for various reasons, although the clarified numbers are already available.
“And those who are missing from the ranks and do not fall into the mentioned categories are the missing, whose number is naturally available, but the authorities consistently hide it.
“I don’t know for sure how long the authorities are going to evade responsibility and go for widespread falsifications, but it's already obvious to all that this cannot continue,” he added.
