Armenian foreign minister meets with Belgian counterpart
Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Aivazian, who is in Belgium on a working visit to participate in the meeting of the Armenia-EU Partnership Council, on Thursday met with Sophie Wilmès, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions of Belgium.
The foreign ministers discussed issues of further strengthening cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms, as well as expanding the collaboration in the spheres of mutual interest. The steps to be undertaken for the full use of trade-economic and investment potential, the development of decentralized cooperation were emphasized as priority, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
The top diplomats of Armenia and Belgium also touched upon the issues on regional security and stability. Minister Aivazian briefed his interlocutor on the steps being undertaken to eliminate the consequences of the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against the people of Artsakh, which are, first and foremost, aimed at addressing the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. In this context, the foreign ministers especially underlined the need for the direct involvement of the international community, particularly the EU countries.
The officials especially emphasized the importance of addressing the issues of peaceful settlement within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
