Defense ministry denies reports about signing an agreement with Russian side
The Ministry of Defense of Armenia denied on Friday reports, suggesting Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan has signed a secret agreement with Russian side at the instruction of PM Nikol Pashinyan, according to which the protection of borders in southern Syunik province of Armenia are handed over to the Russian side.
"The defense minister has not signed any document which refers to the borders of Syunik province. Theoretically, there is no possibility for such an action, since the ministry is not authorized to sign documents concerning Armenia's interstate borders," Panorama.am was told at the ministry.
Our interlocutor added that the ministry has only reached an agreement with Russians which will significantly contribute to the security of the country's borders. At a clarifying question whether the agreement was reached in written or oral, the response was:"There are no signed documents except the one signed on November 9. When the matter refers to the borders, the ministry has no authority to act."
To remind, Mediaport Telegram Channel earlier reported that Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan signed on Thursday a secret agreement with Russian side, handing over the protection of Syunik borders to the Russian troops.
