Clashes erupt between participants of PM-led mourning procession and people gathered at Yerevan military pantheon
Tensions rose at the Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan on Saturday as a group of war veterans and families of soldiers killed in the Artsakh war tried to block Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s entry into the military cemetery.
Pashinyan led a mourning procession from the Republic Square in city center to the Yerablur Military Pantheon to pay tribute to fallen soldiers after three-day mourning was declared in the county starting from 19 December.
Clashes erupted between people and police officers at the pantheon as the latter tried to clear the way for Nikol Pashinyan.
The war veterans and relatives of fallen soldiers began chanting “Nikol the traitor!” and “Nikol, Turk!".
Afterwards, clashes broke out between participants of the march and those gathered at the military pantheon.
Eventually, numerous police officers managed to clear the way for Nikol Pashinyan to enter Yerablur.
