Mayor of Armenian town Goris arrested after calls to block Pashinyan's entry to the province
The Mayor of Goris town in southern Syunik province of Armenia was arrested at night, News.am reported, siting Deputy Mayor of the town Menua Hovsepyan. The mayor, who had participated in the protection of the borders during the recent Karabakh war, has earlier called on citizens to block PM Nikol Pashinyan's entry to the province.
Pashinyan had announced about trip to Goris on Sunday to get familiarised with the state affairs in the place.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Arushan Arushanyan wrote: "Dear citizens of Goris community, in the morning at 06,00, we are starting a care race from G. Tatevatsi Square to Syunik gates to prevent the entry of the 'prime minister', who gave away the Armenian lands and disrupted the inviolability of Syunik. I call on all dignified Goris residents to join the voluntary march. This is not a matter of political choice or a party initiative, but a struggle for dignity, security and physical existence of the Syunik residents, an expression of pan-Armenian revolt."
