Police use of excessive force unacceptable, Sharmazanov says
The police brutality and excessive use of force at the opposition rally is unacceptable, Eduard Sharmazanov, Spokesperson of Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) told reported.
"Citizens held a lawful peaceful protest as they had the right for it. There were no warnings. This is unacceptable, especially given the fact, that female protesters suffered as a result of the violence," Sharmazanov said, adding instead of maintaining the public order, the police officers are simply implementing the iinstructions of Pashinyan, 'the one who ceded territories.'
Sharmazanov reminded that the protesters were not engaged in unlawful activities. "They attempted to block Amiryan Street for a moment. The police immediately exercised force without proper warning about upcoming actions. I would characterize their actions against women as inhuman treatment," the opposition figure added.
As reported earlier, five women suffered on Thursday during the anti-Pashinyan rally in Yerevan as a result of excessive force exercised by police officers. In total, 69 citizens, who took part in the rally organized by the Homeland Salvation Front, were detained.
