International arrivals fell by 72% globally over the first ten months of 2020
The coronavirus pandemic had a major impact on the tourism industry not only in Armenia, but also throughout the world. The Tourism Committee of Armenia cites the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) data, suggesting international arrivals fell by 72% over the first ten months of 2020, with restrictions on travel, low consumer confidence and a global struggle to contain the COVID-19 virus, all contributing to the worst year on record in the history of tourism.
According to the latest tourism data from UNWTO, destinations welcomed 900 million fewer international tourists between January and October when compared with the same period of 2019
To note, according to the numbers released by the National Statistic Service of Armenia, 327,735 tourists visited Armenia during January-September of 2020. Compared with the number of visitors in 2019, the number has dropped by 77.5%.
