Tigran Abrahamyan: We will have new losses as long as the current PM remains in power
"Initially, there was an impression that the November 9 trilateral statement, ending the war in Karabakh, was the final point that documented all our losses, yet after a short period of time, it became evident our losses were more, considering more territories were and are being ceded to Azerbaijan, not envisaged by the statement," Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of "Henaket" analytical center told a press conference on Wednesday.
Abrahamyan recalled Khtsaberd and Hin Tagher villages of Hadrut region, Dizapayt mountain surrendered to Azerbaijan. The latter had a strategic significance in the southern part, said the speaker, adding later, areas near Zangelan-Kubatlu, parts of Shurnukh and Vorotan villages of Armenia were added to the list.
"Those territories were not mentioned in the trilateral statement. Nikol Pashinyan announced they were ceded based on a verbal agreement. The question arises what other territories are subject to be ceded based on that agreement, given the reports circulated by Russians about certain territories in Tavush province and other regions to be handed over to Azeris. Regretfully, the current reality comes to prove these reports are rather facts than predictions. As long as we have this prime minister in charge, we will have more losses," Abrahamyan stressed.
In his words, the authorities are likely to legally formalize the handover of territories in the future.
"There is no prime minister in the world who would state that territories are surrendered by verbal agreement. In this case, we can assume that the November 9 statement had a secret appendix, otherwise territories ceded by verbal agreement are to be legitimized," added the speaker. Abrahamyan also noted with pain that the Armenian side does not participate in the ongoing demarcation process, while Azerbaijan and Turkey are never content with what they have already achieved.
"In this respect, our country faces numerous problems, yet measures aimed at solving the security and economic issues are not visible," stressed Abrahamyan.
