Catholicos Karekin II offers prayers at Yerevan military pantheon
His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, offered a requiem service for the repose of souls of the fallen soldiers at the Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan on Thursday morning, said Father Vahram Melikyan, a spokesperson at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The Armenian Apostolic Church marks January 7 as the Remembrance Day of the Dead (Merelots). It is observed five times as far as it follows five major religious holidays.
Armenia celebrated the Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Christmas) on January 6.
On the Remembrance Day, all churches across Armenia hold a requiem service following a special Divine Liturgy. People visit the graves of their relatives after the end of the memorial service.
