‘The situation is explosive’: Vazgen Manukyan demands meeting with Armenia’s foreign minister, security and army chiefs
Vazgen Manukyan, the joint candidate of the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement for interim prime minister of Armenia, demanded a meeting with Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian, Director of the National Security Service (NSS), Colonel Armen Abazyan and Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Colonel-General Onik Gasparyan, calling the situation in the country “explosive” ahead of the upcoming meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in Moscow.
“Our country has found itself in an extremely dangerous situation. We suffered huge casualties and territorial losses. Our sovereignty has diminished. Armenia's security system is undermined. Our concessions and losses continue due to the defeated prime minister's suspicious and anti-national decisions. The public does not know what he has agreed on and with whom. The upcoming meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev slated for January 11 has sparked deep concerns among the public and political circles. The situation is explosive and may lead to unpredictable developments,” the opposition leader said, addressing the three top officials on Friday, January 8.
“By virtue of your positions, you are responsible for all the made and to-be-made decisions and are obliged to present to the public the real state of affairs. If necessary, you must prevent the adoption of anti-national decisions, protecting the interests of the state and the people.
“We appeal to you, demanding a meeting with representatives of the Homeland Salvation Movement on January 9.
“I am awaiting your clarifications on the situation. Thank you in advance,” Vazgen Manukyan said.
