Lawyer says claims that MP retains only right to vote after leaving a faction are ‘complete nonsense’
The claims that a lawmaker retains only the right to vote after quitting a faction are “complete nonsense”, Doctor of Law Gevorg Danielyan said on Wednesday.
"Leaving a faction is a matter of purely moral and political attitudes. It is unacceptable when the faction stays true to its pre-election program, but it is quite natural when the latter radically reconsiders its approaches or fails to deal with serious matters,” he wrote on Facebook.
“As for the allegations that only the right to vote is retained in case of leaving a faction, they are a complete nonsense.
“A deputy retains all the rights, s/he can even remain a member of the same standing committee, if the proportion is not violated, or can be a member of another standing committee in case of a vacant position. Moreover, the faction will cease to exist if the MPs leave it,” he added.
