NATO calls on Russia to end its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg received on Friday Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili at NATO Headquarters, according to NATO press service. The Secretary General thanked Zourabichvili for Georgia's close political partnership and strong practical cooperation with NATO. He expressed hope that this bond is further strengthened and encouraged Georgia to continue making progress with its reforms.
Stoltenberg next said that despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, NATO and Georgia continue to strengthen their partnership.
The Secretary General and the President also addressed the security situation in the Black Sea region and Russia’s continued military build-up. The Secretary General emphasised that NATO continues to support Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. “We continue to call on Russia to end its recognition of the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and to withdraw its forces,” he said.
