Tensions rise at Yerevan airport as many passengers are not allowed to fly to Russia
Tensions rose at the Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan on Monday morning as many Armenian citizens set to travel to Russia are not allowed to take the plane due to taking coronavirus tests at the laboratories not specified by the carrier.
Last week the Russian government lifted the virus-related entry ban for Armenian nationals, who are now allowed to fly to the country after testing negative for COVID-19 shortly before their departure.
Arriving at the airport, Deputy Director of Aircompany Armenia Gevorg Khachatryan stated that what happened was not the company's fault, adding, however, since it is the first day of flights to Russia and a large number of citizens have faced such a problem, the company will change their tickets for free so that the passengers do not suffer financial losses.
He noted that 260 passengers have already flown to Russia via Aircompany Armenia, adding only 7-8% of them have come across such a problem due to being unfamiliar with the new requirements.
Khachatryan said that the passengers’ tickets will be changed free of charge this time only.
