US and Russia will continue tough competition in all directions, says Armenian political scientist
The US and Russia will continue tough competition in all directions, Armenian political scientist Suren Sargsyan said on Wednesday, stating the further course of US-Russian relations will impact Armenia either directly or indirectly.
“Biden's foreign policy has not only been outlined, but also is being actively implemented. Naturally, we are interested in the future of US-Russian relations, as they will have a direct or indirect effect on us,” he wrote on Facebook.
“There are officials in Biden's administration who have taken a hard line against Russia. This entails new pressures, sanctions and competition. Biden's foreign policy will be tougher and more proactive. There is almost no common ground for cooperation with Moscow. Washington does not accept the concept of "spheres of influence." It will engage in a competition with Russia (also with China) everywhere, including in our region and our country.
“Our situation will be quite difficult. The only way out of the situation will be pragmatism and adoption of a clear position taking into account the realities,” Sargsyan said, adding pragmatic, principled foreign policy and flexible diplomacy “complement each other”.
“It is the only tool to handle these and other challenges,” the political scientist said.
