"Since the November 10 notorious statement in all my meetings I have been voicing the issue of Vardenis-Martakert road," independent MP Taught Tovmasyan stated on Tuesday in parliament. Tovmasyan reminded that the trilateral statement, ending the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, envisaged unblocking of all economic and communication routes in the region.
"If we are speaking of unblocking, then Vardenis-Martakert road should be unblocked as well and resume its normal operation. I have already turned to the foreign minister and the deputy prime minister to raise the issue during the negotiations. It should be noted that the road constructed through pan-Armenian efforts serves today only for Azerbaijan. Nothing may prevent us from reopening it again under the monitoring of Russian peacekeepers," Tovmasyan said.
The lawmaker reminded that the road operation was vital from the economic perspective as well, as it boosted economic and business activity in Vardenis town.
