Armenian parliament discussing Lilit Tadevosyan’s candidacy for Court of Cassation head
The National Assembly of Armenia is debating the issue of electing new chairperson of the Court of Cassation at a special sitting on Tuesday. The Supreme Judicial Council has picked up Lilit Tadevosyan’s candidacy for the post.
"Without the independence of judges and the judiciary, there is no room for justice," Lilit Tadevosyan said, addressing lawmakers.
She noted that the judicial system cannot work effectively in conditions of overload.
"Proper job evaluation and the creation of social guarantees are necessary preconditions for ensuring the independence of judges and involving the best specialists in the judicial system,” she said.
Acting Supreme Judicial Council Chairman Stepan Mikayelyan introduced the candidate to the lawmakers, adding most of the Supreme Judicial Council members had voted for Lilit Tadevosyan's candidacy in an open voting.
A professor of law, Lilit Tadevosyan has served as Chairperson of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation to date.
