Nearly 175,000 die from coronavirus in Mexico
The death toll from coronavirus in Mexico since late February 2020 has reached 174,657, TASS reported on Tuesday, citing Mexican Health Ministry’s Director of Epidemiology Jose Luis Alomia.
Nearly 2.19 mln people have contracted COVID-19 in the country, and 1.55 mln have recovered. In the past 14 days, 56,700 people showed symptoms of the disease. "The decrease [in the number of cases] seen over the past three weeks continues," Alomia said.
Vaccination of medical personnel was launched in Mexico in late December 2020. By now, nearly 750,000 people have been inoculated with Pfizer’s vaccine. More than 86,100 of them have received both doses.
On Monday, the authorities started vaccinating elderly citizens. The government plans to inoculate more than 15.7 mln senior citizens by mid-April. This will make it possible to reduce the mortality rate by 80%.
