Ishkhan Saghatelyan: Now it’s people’s turn to force ‘evil’ authorities to step down
Now it is the people’s turn to force the “evil” authorities to hear their voice and step down, one of the leaders of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Ishkhan Saghatelyan, who coordinates the activities of the Homeland Salvation Movement, said in a statement on Tuesday, ahead of a nationwide rally announced by the movement on February 20. The full text of his statement is below.
“After November 9, the Homeland Salvation Movement, in fact, became a pioneer in the struggle against the traitorous authorities.
During these months, people were given an opportunity to raise their voices in protest, be heard and have a platform to fight against the destruction of the homeland thanks to the actions of the Homeland Salvation Movement.
As a result of our struggle, those who have signed the capitulation but are ready to maintain their grip on power at any cost, have found themselves in agony. An unprecedented consensus has been formed among the broad strata of society and political circles. Today the picture is already clear: on one side of the barricade is the evil government with its leader and his allies, while on the other side is the Armenian people.
However, even being the main culprit of this disaster, the authorities, preferring their own, narrowly personal and group interests to the interests of the homeland, do not want to take note of the clear demand made by the broad public masses. Therefore, it is the people’s turn now to force the evil authorities to hear their voice and leave.
During these months, the tent set up by the Homeland Salvation Movement at Republic Square was one of the platforms of our struggle, due to which we met, listened and talked to thousands of citizens.
Stressing the importance of the right of every dignified citizen to be heard, members of the Homeland Salvation Movement will henceforth be at Freedom Square every day from 5pm to 7pm.
Our relentless struggle for the salvation of the homeland will continue until the removal of the evil authorities and the creation of prerequisites for strengthening Armenia.
We are looking forward to meeting with you at Liberty Square.
And the main date remains the same – February 20, at 3pm, a nationwide rally at Liberty Square.”
