Armenian expert points to ‘incompetent’ foreign policy of current authorities
Expert on international affairs Suren Sargsyan has presented “another example of the incompetent foreign policy” pursued by the current Armenian authorities.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the expert pointed to the decisions adopted by the Armenian government in September 2019 to open embassies in Israel and Ethiopia.
The decision to open an embassy in Ethiopia was incomprehensible from the very beginning due to the lack of a bilateral agenda, Sargsyan said, adding the authorities justified the move with the necessity to cooperate with African countries and, in particular, the African Union based in Addis Ababa.
“What happened as a result?
“1. The embassy was not opened, that is, there was no need for it, or they regretted the decision.
“2. They conveyed a bad message after announcing plans to open an embassy and to develop relations [with African countries] and then cancelling the decision.
“That is, they decided for themselves that they did not need it and closed the topic. In both cases, Ethiopia, as well as separate states and the African Union treated us very lightly.
“That is why we need to take new measured steps at least in relations with foreign countries,” Sargsyan said.
