Mediaport: Armenian president ‘stunned’ after meeting with army’s top brass
Mediaport Telegram channel revealed details of a meeting of Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian and the military’s top brass held late on Friday.
The meeting came after the General Staff of the Armenian army demanded Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s and his team’s resignation, accusing them of misrule. Shortly afterwards, the premier decided to dismiss him.
According to the report, the generals and Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan presented the president hundreds of facts about “illogical and treacherous instructions” Pashinyan gave during the recent war, insisting on their demand for his resignation.
Armen Sarkissian was left “stunned” after the meeting at the General Staff, the source said.
Later, Pashinyan “paid a secret visit” to the president, trying to convince him to sign the decree on Onik Gasparyan’s dismissal, Mediaport said, promising to provide details of the meeting.
Earlier on Friday, Sarkissian held separate meetings with representatives of the parliamentary forces, National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan, leaders of the Homeland Salvation Movement Vazgen Manukyan, Artur Vanetsyan, Vahram Baghdasaryan and Artsvik Minasyan.
