Statement of Armenia’s Security Council edited
The statement released by the Security Council of Armenian after today’s meeting was edited shortly after its publication due to “technical errors”.
A number of substantive changes were made in the text of the statement. It was initially mentioned in the statement that, “The President of the Republic of Armenia, being the most important institution monitoring the compliance with the Constitution, is obliged to unequivocally show a corresponding approach.” The edited version says: "Recognizing that, in accordance with the Constitution, the President of the Republic of Armenia, as the most important institution monitoring the compliance with the Constitution, has a discretionary alternative power in the field of the Armed Forces to appoint and dismiss the highest command staff of the military.”
In addition, the first version of the statement issued by the Security Council “called on” the president to approve Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s petition to sack the chief of the military’s General Staff and to sign the relevant decree.
However, the Security Council is not entitled to “call on” the president. As a result, it was replaced with the word “propose”, with the new version saying, “The Security Council proposes the President to approve the proposal of the Prime Minister of Armenia to dismiss the General Staff chief and to sign the relevant decree."
