Artsakh teams resume search operations for war casualties
Search and rescue teams of Artsakh’s State Service of Emergency Situations have resumed their operations in the Azerbaijani-held areas to find casualties of the 2020 war and those missing in action. The search operations are being conducted in Hadrut, Varanda (Fizuli) and Jrakan (Jebrayil) today.
"As a result of negotiations with the Russian side, today we have already received permission to carry out search and rescue operations in the territories beyond the control of Artsakh. The squads have already started the activities," Hunan Tadevosyan, the head of the press department at the State Service of Emergency Situations, told Panorama.am.
The Azerbaijani authorities banned the search and rescue operations in the territories under its control on February 15, without providing any explanations.
Tadevosyan said the assumptions that Azerbaijan banned the operations due to carrying out some activities in those settlements turned out to be true.
Since the start of the ceasefire, a total of 1,485 bodies of fallen troops and civilians have been retrieved from the former combat zones during the operations.
