President Sarkissian invites the PM, opposition leaders to discuss the political crisis in Armenia
Armenia's President Armen Sarkissian sent invitations to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the leaders of parliamentary factions as well as the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement to gather at the Presidential Administration on March 13 and discuss the political crisis in Armenia. As the statement released on behalf of the president said, the meeting will address ways to overcome the crisis through 'mutually acceptable solutions'. The statement added that the president expects all parties to confirm their participation in the meeting by March 11 at 18.00.
In Sarkissian's words, the political crisis continues in Armenia, and the situation remains tense which may lead to unpredictable and irreparable consequences for the country and the statehood.
"There are many problems pending solutions which require urgent and system changes, including through constitutional and legislative changes. The authorities, the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary political forces have repeatedly expressed their positions. Yet, they lack mutual understanding and a desire to compromise," said the statement.
Sarkissian also rreiterated his position that the only way to settle differences is through negotiations and dialogue, while the path of Armenia's and Artsakh development is possible through consolidation of efforts and capacities of all.
